Very very clever.
An employee, Xiao Z, who has been with Didi for a year and a half, is a fan who has been following my official account for two years. He contacted me before the Spring Festival this year and wanted to talk about his work experience. As a result, a few days later, there was bad news that Didi was laying off 2,000 people.
A few nights ago, I made a phone call with Xiao Z for more than an hour, learned a lot about the internal situation of Didi, and talked with him about a lot of career planning.
Today, I have distilled the content of the call into 3 reminders, hoping to help more professionals.
1. Although the company is large, where is the main business?
The first question I asked Xiao Z was:
"Are you there for this layoff?!"
On the other end of the phone he laughed: I won't.
Xiao Z's statement is consistent with Didi's official announcement, but it is more detailed: According to him, the biggest part of the layoffs is Didi Takeaway.
Last year, Didi invested heavily Latest Mailing Database in food delivery. Many employees thought it was a good opportunity and applied to be transferred to the food delivery department. With external recruitment, the number of food delivery staff increased by 3,000 or 4,000. After the shocking "ride incident" across the country, the strategic direction of the entire Didi Group began to adjust.
Those colleagues who wanted to fight a bad battle with Meituan became the biggest casualties of this layoff.
In addition, international business, car service business, bicycle business (Qingju Bicycle, Didi originally wanted to acquire ofo last year), etc., also have a considerable impact.
The department that Xiao Z is in belongs to Didi’s special car business. Together, the special car and express car business are Didi’s largest cash cow. Xiao Z's position is called "Driving Management Consultant". Not only will he not be fired, but almost all driving management consultants, as well as city managers and regional managers above them, don't have to worry about being fired.
In the main business, there are no sudden mass layoffs, only the regular elimination of the last position.
This is what we all know, layoffs in large companies are usually strategic and have little to do with the individual ability of the employee.
Colleagues in the takeaway business and bicycle business must be less capable than you? Of course not. They just weren't in the right place.
At any time, big companies will do everything possible to keep the core and most profitable business. As long as you are not too bad to be eliminated at the bottom, you don’t have to tremble in fear of the layoff storm.
Of course, under the nest, how can there be a complete egg?
Certainly not. For example, Xiao Z's year-end bonus this year only got less than half of the original, but Xiao Z is already very satisfied.
Hit the blackboard, this is my first reminder to the workplace: if you go to a big company, you must go to its main business as much as possible.
Of course, there are more opportunities for new business, but compared with the various risks, it is really not worthwhile.
2. Find a small goal, you will no longer be anxious
To put it simply, the daily work scope of Xiao Z, the "driving management consultant", is mainly to manage the drivers and solve some daily problems, such as conveying the service process, explaining the incentive policy, and handling some complaints. This is in terms of "micromanagement".
